Sloppy Joes

My friend, Brenda, taught me her original recipe for sloppy joes.  I like it much better than the canned Manwich sauce. This recipe differs in preparation by adding the ketchup last instead of letting it simmer. The ketchup retains more sweetness and spices, with less aftertaste from the sweetener if it isn't cooked down. I've adapted this recipe for Keto.
Sloppy Joes
1 1/2 lbs hamburger
1 Tbsp salt
1 onion, chopped
1/2 bell pepper, chopped (optional)
1/4 cup water
1 Tbsp vinegar (I use organic apple cider vinegar, but any kind will do.)
4 tsp Swerve brown sugar
1 1/2 cups sugar free ketchup

Brown hamburger with salt, onions, and bell peppers. Drain off fat. Add water, vinegar, & brown sugar. Cook, stirring until sauce thickens...about 5 minutes. Add the ketchup, stir well, and let warm through a few seconds. Serve hot on toasted 90 Second Keto Bread

Serves about 5 adults
